Week #3

This week we continued to develop our endurance for the Terry Fox run next Friday September 27 as well as to discuss how we can demonstrate perseverance. Many of the students shared examples of how they persevered while training, with examples like not stopping because I had a cramp, running to the next corner before taking a break, trying to keep up with a friend, encouraging others to keep going and only stopping a few times.

Students are working towards setting either a personal goal or a class goal for the Terry Fox run. Please talk with your child about what they would like to achieve leading up to the run and on the day of.

Here are some of the learning objectives and games we played this week.

Grades K & 1
Bean bag stealers
Heads up when running
Ball tag
20 minute endurance run x2 (ask your child how many laps they were able to do each time)

Grades 2 & 3
Bean bag stealers or Squirrel's tail
Heads up when running and arms bent at the elbow (no noodle arms!)
Ball tag, tail steal
25 minute endurance run x2 (ask your child how many laps they were able to do each time)

Grades 4 & 5
Squirrel's tail
Heads up when running, fix eyes on something in the distance and arms bent at the elbow (no noodle arms!)
Ball tag, tail steal
25 minute endurance run x2 (ask your child how their first run compared to their second)

If possible please send your child with outdoor shoes for running. Running for 20-25 minutes in rubber boots is very difficult and extra tiring.
